This day, Major
Skeen, who went out to se wat the fire was made for, returned about 9 oclock A.
M., & brought in 2 of our men that run away from the French; they had been
without provisions 6 day, living on strawberrys & roots. About noon we discoverd
several boats coming up the lake from toward St Johns, which proves to be sum
of our people that have been in captivity; there is about 130 in all. They
bring us the agreable news of the French being obliged to raise the seige of
Quebeck in the greatest confusion, with the loss of 3,500 men, & all their
arteliry, & all their camp equipage, & that the country is all in
confusion.
